After securing a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Prasad Chacko completed the Fellowship Programme in Social Management (FPSM) offered by the Behavioural Science Centre (BSC), Ahmedabad in 1987 and directly joined the BSC as an Education Officer. He worked in various capacities for 11 years before being appointed as the Director of BSC in 1998. During this tenure, he assisted the BSC in making a decisive shift towards a human rights-based approach. He led the BSC team to help the victim-survivors of the tragic Gujarat earthquake of 2001 access equitable relief and rehabilitation rights through community-led advocacy. Following the communal carnage in 2002 in Gujarat, he facilitated BSC’s role in the formation of the Citizen’s Initiative. Moving on from BSC in 2005, he worked with ActionAid as the Regional Manager, Gujarat as well as the Focal person for Impact Assessment and Shared Learning at the national level. In January 2009, he joined NCDHR, Delhi to help establish and develop National Dalit Watch (NDW, for inclusive Disaster Response and Disaster Risk Reduction). Currently, he works as a consultant in the field of rights-based social development, associated with the Centre for Development & Kadam Education Initiative, Ahmedabad, and NDW-NCHDR, Delhi.
