Women Human Rights Defenders from grassroots were trained as Para Legal Resource persons in Protecting Women’s Human Rights

The Dalit women participants from Haryana have pledged themselves to be engaged with dalit women movement for Dalit women issues along with their studies and work. Three dalit women volunteers decided to fully work with AIDMAM as probationary fellows for three months to learn more and extend their services for the community women. The rest of the participants pledged themselves to work for the advancement of the dalit women agenda in their respective states in collaboration with AIDMAM state team members.  These decisions were taken up by the Dalit women who participated in the State- Level training programme on Human Rights and HR Monitoring Mechanisms and Advocacy for Dalit women Human Rights Defenders (DWHRDs) and Activist, organized by AIDMAM which was held in New Delhi from 13th to 15th of November, 2016.  

The Training was designed specifically for dalit women leaders with a goal to capacitate Young Women to become Change Agents for Protection and Promotion of Human Rights of Dalit and Adivasi Communities Particularly Women.

The capacity building initiative focused on to motivate and empower knowledge of Young Dalit women on National and International Human Rights mechanisms, Skills on HR monitoring, lobbying, advocacy  including report writing, petition writing and First Information Report (FIR) writing. Further the Young Dalit women were also capacitated on Network building, Coordinating and Communicating with human rights institutions, government agencies and civil society organizations.

The training was imparted by Dalit leaders like Vimal Thorat, Convenor-NCDHR, Ramesh Nathan; General Secretary NDMJ-NCDHR, Asha Kowtal General Secretary, AIDMAM-NCDHR, Abhirami National Coordinator, NDMJ-NCDHR, Rahul Singh National Coordinator NDMJ-NCDHR,  Anju, National Coordinator, AIDMAM-NCDHR,  Dyuti  Research and Advocacy Associate DAAA-NCDHR, Rajeshwar; State Coordinator, AIDMAM-NCDHR, Savita; National Legal Coordinator, AIDMAM-NCDHR.

 

22 Young Dalit women and 3 dalit men from the States of Haryana, Rajasthan, U.P., Bundelkhand and Madhy Pradesh participated in the programme.
