National Round Table Meeting on Inclusion of Dalits in Drought Response Decides to approach State and National Human Rights Panels for Dalit Inclusion in Drought Response

To take the agenda ahead as a collective for demands on Dalit inclusion in Drought Response National Dalit Watch/National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights organized a Round Table Meeting on “Inclusion of Dalits in Drought Response Challenges and Way Forward " on 24th October at Indian Social Institute, Delhi.  

Inclusion of dalits in drought response

Comprehensive overview of the situation of Dalits in drought response from the states of districts Maharashtra, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and other stake holders took place to know the challenges for inclusion of Dalits in drought management. The discussions lead to come out with common demands and road map for inclusion of Dalits and marginalized communities in the Drought response actions, policy and guidelines. The meeting also gave space to other Humanitarian agencies to share and discuss about their model practices and tools at implementation level.

Key outcomes of the meeting 

-Participation of victims, community leaders from the states of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, .Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Rajasthan to discuss the ground realties.  

-Active participation in the planning and thinking of joint actions by team of experts from JNU,SPHERE INDIA , IACR , EKTA PARISHAD etc., 

-Core team members from the states and national organizations have planned multilevel actions to focus on the implementation of relief guidelines and various disaster management announcements 

-Core committee have been formed to review state level actions on drought management  and come out a people centric demands at National state and implementation level 

-To do immediate interventions with State and National Human Rights Institutions.
