Dalit Swabhiman Sangharsh Yatra in Uttar Pradesh brings out dalit rights issues related to violence, drought, land, women rights, manual scavenging etc. and raises question of Dignity of Dalits lives
All India Dalit Mahila Adhikar Manch (AIDMAM) with Bundelkhand Dalit Adhikar Manch (BDAM) organized Dalit Swabhiman Sangharsh Yatra in Uttar Pradesh to reclaim justice to Dalit victims, rights and entitlements, development rights and dignity to live as any citizens of India. The Yatra began at Jalaun, Bundelkhand on the birth anniversary of Birsa Munda i.e 15th November, 2016. The Yatra travelled through villages and districts, held Press Conferences in Unnao, Jalaun, Kanpur and finally concluded the Yatra by holding a press conference by releasing a Dalit Manifesto in Lucknow the state capital. The Yatra team members shared their experiences of the Yatra before the release of the Dalit Manifesto.
The Yatra brought out issues of Dalits from violence, drought, land, women rights, manual scavenging and other rights and entitlements in Utter Pradesh. This raised the question of Dignity of the lives of Dalits in the State. With the experiences A dalit manifesto and memorandum was prepared and submitted to the state authorities, district authorities. Inspite of demonetization impact people participated. Instead of a people’s programme in front of State Assembly as planned the yatra was concluded with the Press Conference.
