Mirchpur killings: NDMJ approaches HC

Chandigarh, May 18

In a petition filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the National Dalit Movement for Justice through secretary Rajesh Kumar today sought directions to the state of Haryana and other respondents to adequately compensate the victimized families of Mirchpur village in Haryana’s Hisar district.

The petitioner also asked constitution of a special investigation team, the arrest of the accused, and social security for the victims. In the petition against the deputy commissioner and other respondents, it was added the accused should also be booked under the provisions of the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Prevention of Atrocities Act. The petitioner claimed several houses were set afire. Besides this, a physically challenged girl and her father were burnt alive.

Taking up the matter, the Division Bench of Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal and Justice Jasbir Singh fixed August 3 as the next date of hearing.
