Delegation to the Police Reforms Committee

A delegation from NCDHR consisting of Ms.Abirami, Mr Paul Divakar, Mr. Vincent Manoharan, Dr. Umakant, and Mr Rajkumar called on Dr. U.N B Rao, Secretary, Police Act Drafting Committee (PADC), Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India on the 3rd April 2006 to discuss concerns and issues regarding Dalit Human Rights.


Dr Rao was appraised in detail about the ongoing caste based discrimination practices and atrocities taking place in the country. The recommendations of the Consultation on Police Reforms jointly organized by CHRI and NCDHR were shared with him, and a hard copy handed over to him for his reference. The draft recommendations will be circulated to all the Committee Members of (PADC) and their inputs / comments on Dalit Human Rights Violation, and other related issues and concerns will also be taken into consideration, Mr. Rao said.


Dr.Rao was requested to arrange for a Meeting of the NCDHR team with the sitting Members of the PADC so that a larger sharing could be had on the concerns and viewpoints of Dalits with regard to reforms in the Police Force. Dr. Rao assured that the discussions could be organized during the next sitting of the full Committee. He expressed his solidarity with Dalit Human Rights.
