National Workshop:  Adivasi/Tribal & Dalit Women's participation and role in Economic Empowerment & Development

on 21st October 2013 at YMCA, Conference Hall, New Delhi.

On behalf of the National Coalition on SCP TSP Legislation (NACSTL), It is our pleasure to  invite you to the “National Workshop:  Adivasi/Tribal & Dalit Women's participation and role in Economic Empowerment & Development.

Tribal/Adivasi & Dalit  women make significant contributions to the development of the community. Despite some improvements in status in both rural and urban area, their rights and priorities remain insufficiently addressed in legal frameworks, national and local policies, budget, as well as in investment strategies at all levels. They are disadvantaged as a result of gender-based stereotypes and discrimination which deny them equal access to opportunities, resources and services.

Women in India, continue to face disparities in access and control over resources. The achievement of human development is heavily depended on the development and empowerment of the 586.5 million women and girls, of which 25% women constitute ST & SC women (51.8 million (ST) & 97.8 million (SC) as per census 2011 census). One of the essential tools that can be used to promote equality and empowerment is gender-responsive, gender budgeting.

The Tribal sub-plan and the Scheduled Caste Sub plans are effective tools to address the development gap, this workshop attempts to understand these tools and its significance in the community development. To ensure women's participation in the decision making both in the legislation phase and implementation phase, thereby arriving at a gender focused TSP & SCP.

Please confirm your participation as soon as possible so we can make the necessary arrangements.

Looking forward to working together to strengthen the Dalit and Adivasi Economic rights and ensure that a National  legislation is passed on SCP/TSP soon !
