Feb 16, 2009: More than 5000 people including Dalit activists’ faculty member & students from JNU, Jamia, DU & I.P. university, Dalit Rights organizations...

Chalo ParliamentWe have demanded the complete withdrawal of section 4 of the SC/STs (Reservations in Posts and Services) Bill, 2008 which recently passed in Rajya Sabha in previous session and about to pass in Lok Sabha.

Political faces like Pranin Rashtra Pal, Congress MP, Sita Ram Yechury MP (CPIM) have also participated in the Rally.  Jai Singh from Punjab came to join the Rally with 3000 people. All the members who supported the Rally threatened the Govt. to take back the Bill and given their memorandum to the President Srimati Pratibha Patel.
This Rally is only a demo, if govt. goes ahead with the Bill we will teach them a lesson in the coming election and our agitation will go till the justice done. We are not begging for reservation, it’s our constitutional right Said Paul Divakr, General Secretary Dalit Arthik Adhikar Andolan.
One side Govt. is talking to uplift the oppressed and other side introducing such a Bill who prevents the Dalits to get into the higher educational posts said Vimal Thorat, Professor. IGNOU.
The bill is once again a reflection of the discriminatory ethos that Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are fit only to occupy the lowest positions in society. It was a strategy employed during the December 2008 session by the Govt. to pass many such Bills without discussion. This type of caste based discrimination not only produces inhibition/humiliation among Dalit students, it also makes them take extreme steps like committing suicide as in the case of Senthil kumar in Central University, Hyderabad.
