Lucknow, November 19 For the Assembly polls in Gujarat this December, the Bahujan Samaj Party has chosen to experiment with its social engineering formula. Like in UP, in Gujarat, too, BSP supremo Mayawati will target the party's traditional Dalit and Brahmin votebanks.

Till now, the BSP is the only party which has announced that it will contest on all 182  seats in Gujarat.
The BSP has deputed a battery of Brahmin leaders in Gujarat to spearhead the campaign.
Earlier, the party had roped in rebel Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nalin Bhatt, a Brahmin.

As the BSP state incharge and national general secretary, Gandhi Azad, camps in Gujarat for over a month to monitor the campaign, CM Mayawati is scheduled to address more than 30 meetings across the state over eight days.

The party has instructed all its UP coordinators to pay at least one visit to Gujarat before the polls. "The focus is on spreading the message of Kanshi Ram and Mayawati throughout the country and making more people recognise the party symbol," said a senior BSP leader.

"In fact our aim is the next year's Lok Sabha elections. In the coming days, BSP will focus on Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra and Jammu," he said.
On Thursday, the day the official notification was issued for the first phase of elections in Gujarat, Mayawati had set an agenda for the party leaders. While national General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra and Energy minister Ramvir Uppadhya will camp in Gujarat, a team of four senior leaders including Member of Parliament Brijesh Pathak, legislator Dawood Ahmad, Rajya Sabha member Ambet Rajan and Jugul Kishore will assist candidates from various constituencies.

In the previous Assembly polls, Mayawati had campaigned for Narendra Modi and had shared the dais with him at several public meetings. "This time, the BSP symbol will be there in all the 182 constituencies and leaders from other states will also be deployed there for campaigning," said a senior BSP leader.

Gujarat incharge Gandhi Azad said Mayawati will be on four-day tour of the state for the first phase of polling in 87 constituencies on December 11. On December 16, she will be eturn for another four days when election will be held to the rest of the 95 seats in the state.

BSP leaders said it is a step towards giving the party an all-India image. The party is also concentrating on Madhya Pradesh where it had won two seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
In MP, too, the BSP has assigned Uppadhya and Mishra with organising Brahmin conventions and mobilising the community along with Dalits.
